Magnum Farce is the thirty-eighth episode of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series and the sixteenth episode of Season 2.

Xena vs Xenu. Place your bets.
An egotistical actor who tries to force large-breasted women to marry him even if it means resorting to criminal abduction. But enough about Kroze, this episode revolves around the infamous martial artist Jean-Claude Magnum (who really should have been called Jean-Claude Van Darn) and his duel with somebody who has never won an on-screen card game in her entire career. Also, you and me? We're done professionally.

Cultural referencesEdit

  • The episode title is a pun on the title of the movie Magnum Force.
  • The passing cards in the opening include:
  • Metal Gear Solid's cutscenes are used as a comparison of length of time, as cutscenes of the Metal Gear Solid franchise are notoriously long.
  • Magnum borrows the catchphrase of the The Simpsons character Troy Maclure when he says "you may remember me from such films as..."
  • Joey calls Jean-Claude Magnum a "thinly-veiled parody of a Belgian kickboxer", referring to actor/martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme.
  • Mai's summoned Amazon Warrior is really the protagonist of Xena: Warrior Princess.
  • Jean Claude's army of ninjas comprises of Gray Fox (from Metal Gear Solid), Sub-Zero (from the Mortal Kombat franchise), Naruto Uzumaki, and Michaelangelo (of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
  • After seeing Jean-Claude's deck, Yami asks "Why is everyone in this guy's deck a f*****g ninja?", a reference to the pilot episode of LittleKuriboh's side-project, Naruto: The Abridged Comedy Fandub Spoof Series Show. Naruto's appearance at the end of the episode is an inverted reference.
    • On a side note, this phrase has also cameoed in Linkara's review of Bimbos in Time #1, instead saying "Why is everybody in this show a f**king Bimbo?!"
  • The text overlay that states "This is what Jean-Claude Magnum actually believes" is a reference to a similar text overlay of "This is what Scientologists actually believe" in the South Park episode Trapped in the Closet. Jean Claude later references Ron Hubbard, who was the founder of Scientology. Xenu, a figure of the religion's belief, is also mentioned. Jean-Claude mentions famous Scientologists Issac Hayes, Jason Lee, and Rufus the naked mole rat (voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who is a scientologist).
  • Tristan yells "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!" This is a widely known brand of spread that makes use of its own name as an advertising slogan.
  • Jean Claude mentions acting like "a giant infant" on Oprah Winfrey's couch whilst talking about love. This references the behavior of Tom Cruise (a Scientology member) on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
  • The ending line references the James Bond films, several of which end with the text "Bond will be back in [name of next James Bond film]".
  • The post-credit review directly samples Christian Bale's confrontation with Shane Hurlbut on the set of Terminator Salvation over footage of the anime movie Howl's Moving Castle.
